Evaluating the Quality of Education in the EYFS (using deep dive methodology)

Target Audience –

EYFS Leaders, Headteachers, Deputy and Assistant Heads. EYFS Teachers if accompanied by another senior leader (as you cannot monitor yourself!)

It is highly recommended that delegates attend the course, in pairs. The main reason for this, is that main EYFS units consist of only one to three classes. The EYFS teachers and the EYFS leader will benefit greatly from this course, but the course is about monitoring – and you cannot monitor yourself!

The course will use deep dive methodology to evaluate the quality of education in the EYFS. It will consider behaviour, routines and pupils’ personal development as well as the quality of the curriculum.

The course will cover:

  • Ensuring a high quality EYFS Curriculum
  • What to look for in lesson visits and recording and evaluating what is found
  • Talking to pupils and recording and evaluating what is found
  • Evaluating pupils practical and written work
  • Talking to EYFS teachers and recording and evaluating what is found

There are two parts to the course, and BOTH must be attended to gain the most from this course.

Part 1 will cover the curriculum, lesson visits, pupils discussions, pupils’ practical and written work, and discussions with teachers.

Between Part 1 and Part 2, delegates will be expected to undertake a deep dive into the EYFS. they will record their findings on the proforma provided and bring thier digital notes to part 2 of the course. Please remember you cannot monitor yourself, so it is VITAL that if you are a one class EYFS unit, two teachers attend the course.

Part 2 will cover writing up the findings of the deep dive and writing a subsequent action plan based on the findings.
